Peridot was a uniquely prized gem in Arabic history, resulting in it being given the name ‘faridat’ which was quickly loaned to the English language. This simply meant ‘gem’ in the native language, exemplifying its ubiquity and how it acted as the quintessential example of a precious stone at the time; an observation that remains true to this day.

2. Its storied birthright

Many people who see peridot for the first time feel moved to remark on its otherworldly beauty… and they’d be right to do so. However, the majority of peridots on the market today have been mined in earthly places such as Egypt and Myanmar, where miners risking their lives on locations like ‘Snake Island’ to find stunning new examples of the stones. 

3. Its singular character:

Available in a range of colours, from yellowish-green to verdant olive, peridot is a close sister to topaz and emerald.
